ENGINEERED ARCHITECTURAL GLASS

Structural Laminated Glass (up to 130'' x 470'')

Layered for safety.
Designed for clarity.

Explore laminated glass for façades, overhead glazing and transparent barriers. Coordinate the glass plies, interlayer and support system around the demands of your project.

PRODUCT OVERVIEW

Transparency with
a considered structure.

Laminated glass joins two or more glass plies with a bonded polymer interlayer. After breakage, fragments can remain attached to the interlayer, helping reduce glass fallout.

Structural applications require a defined make-up, support arrangement and engineering review. Glass treatment, interlayer behavior and post-breakage requirements must be considered together.

KEY CONSIDERATIONS

More than a single glass lite.

01

Fragment Retention

A bonded interlayer helps hold fragments after breakage. Retention depends on the assembly and support.

02

Noise Control

Acoustic interlayers can reduce sound transmission. Evaluate STC / OITC for the specified glass assembly.

03

Visual Freedom

Explore clear, low-iron, tinted or decorative combinations to balance transparency, color and privacy.

04

Envelope Integration

Combine lamination with suitable Low-E coatings and insulating units, with compatibility checked for the make-up.

INTERLAYER SELECTION

Choose the layer around the application.

ARCHITECTURAL LEVEL

PVB Interlayers

A common choice for architectural lamination. Acoustic, colored and enhanced structural PVB grades address different design priorities.

Review: Grade, thickness, exposure and intended performance.

STRUCTURAL LEVEL

SGP Interlayers

SGP limits deflection in appropriately designed assemblies. Consider the project temperature and load duration.

Review: Structural calculations, supports and post-breakage behavior.

APPEARANCE OPTIONS

Color, Texture & Print

Explore low-iron substrates, translucent color and compatible decorative finishes. Confirm appearance and material compatibility on samples.

Low-E coatings, heat treatment and print surface positions are reviewed with the interlayer and fabrication sequence.

STRUCTURAL DESIGN GUIDE

Start with the complete assembly.

Supply the design conditions before selecting glass thickness or an interlayer.

Loads & Support

Define panel geometry, span, fixing positions and design loads. Review holes, notches and edge distances with the supporting system.

Temperature & Time

Interlayer stiffness depends on temperature and load duration. Use the selected material data in the engineering model.

Breakage & Retention

Identify required residual performance after breakage. Review glass treatment, fragment retention and the support strategy for that condition.

Edges & Interfaces

Coordinate edge exposure, drainage, sealants, gaskets and fittings. Check compatibility and provide installation details for review.
